Die dood is 'n mooi blou blom
(Pandora Boeke, 2009)
Available as ebook on Amazon.

lovely blue flower

this morning trembling prayers:

summers irretrievably past
uninterrupted blue like thundery weather
above roof ridges, trees of similar feather
no denial of flight

death is a high C
clamorous woodpecker’s
fearless aria in the empty air
a spot of sun splintered by mirrors
crumbling evanescence

death is a lovely blue flower
of immediate wordlessness
the tongue dies instantly
and silence settles like a butterfly
on blue calyxes

death is a word gone astray
that mocks in a calyx of colours
in mirrors indefinably distorted
and you suspect
release is as far as loss can be

outside a flower lies

near the door birds frightened from trees
have lost their way.

Vers & Vrou - Karen de Wet (ed.)
(Human & Rousseau, 2020)

Simon Says (Colour and Quill, 2015)
English novel

As prelude to a piece of short fiction in A Blink of the Screen, Terry Pratchett writes: "This was one of those letting-off-steam things: you underwent what the late Patrick Campbell used to call rigours of life, and instead of taking it out on somebody, you wrote it down..."

When Simon's attempts at finishing his next novel are constantly interrupted by inappropriate deliveries and unsolicited phone calls, he takes revenge. His motto? Don't mess with me, I'm a writer. As he keeps on fictionalising people who have angered him, he realises that his stories are more powerful than he thought - they are influencing reality. A neighbour dies; a woman loses her job; a car crashes. Will he stop before someone he loves is hurt or is it already too late? Can he unwrite reality? And where does his ex-neighbour's ugly dog fit into the story?

More Than One Way to Kill a Cat (Colour and Quill, 2019)
Cosy mystery novel

“Well, thought Harry, did you want to hear my list? A snail plague, an unsolicited pet, a missing client, a missing spade, noises in the dark, a whole nest of dead cat and kittens, and – did I mention it? – another missing client! Talk about being over it.”

Harry is a gardener, who occasionally has to kill things for a living – weeds, insects, snails. This makes him a murderer, according to his five-year old daughter Martha. She wants a snail for a pet, before he “petticides” it. But a cat will also do.
On the same day that Martha’s pet arrives, Harry discovers something buried in a client’s garden. But then the client disappears. While Harry is confronted with deaths and disappearances, his wife Nancy goes on a wild goose chase searching for the meaning behind the find. Harry learns there is no easy answer to the question: when is killing murder?
